HWDSB - BACKGROUND
As a Special Education teacher within the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) in Hamilton, Ontario, my journey in education has been both diverse and enriching.
I have had the privilege of teaching all grades from 1 to 8, each offering unique experiences and invaluable insights.
My passion firmly resides in 21st Century pedagogies, embracing modern teaching practices that include makerspaces, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and the transformative power of play-based learning.
My commitment to innovative and inclusive education has been recognized through several prestigious awards. In 2010, I was honored with the Microsoft Teacher of the Year Award, a testament to my dedication to integrating technology in education.
Additionally, I received the Achieving Excellence Award from the HWDSB and took first place in the Canadian Education Association (CEA) for Innovation in Teaching Practices. These accolades reflect my continuous effort to stay at the forefront of educational advancement.
At the core of my teaching philosophy is a steadfast dedication to creating an environment that caters to the needs of all learners. By implementing UDL principles, I ensure that every student has an equal opportunity to succeed.
My focus on equity and culturally relevant and responsive pedagogy (CRRP) guides my approach, allowing me to provide a truly inclusive and supportive learning atmosphere.
This commitment is not just a professional obligation but a personal mission to empower every student I teach.
